Designing Effective Curriculum for Teaching Thinking
Great classroom activities that teach thinking don't just happen, they are designed, supported and formally assessed. Most models of curriculum instruction suggest that teachers should take a backwards design approach to curriculum design.

Backwards design means-you the teacher-should begin by creating the product or performance that you expect from your students-to the level of sophistication that you would expect from your students.

  • Step One in backwards design is to have a clear vision of what you expect your students to know and be able to do by the end of your activity.
